Research focuses on survey methodology and public opinion. Dr. Singer works primarily
in two areas of research with implications for population research: knowledge, attitudes,
and beliefs with respect to genetics and genetic testing, and the ethical and practical
implications of concerns about confidentiality on response rates to surveys. In the
first area, she has focused on differences between ethnic and racial groups in the
U.S. Her research on confidentiality has focused on how beliefs and attitudes interact
with topic sensitivity and disclosure limitation practices to affect willingness
to participate in survey research.
